Zagreb escalators to resume service after two-year delay

Escalators connecting King Tomislav Square to the Importanne Center underpass and Zagreb Main Railway Station are expected to be operational following a period of testing in mid-August.

The replacement of the old system, which has been out of service since mid-2024, follows a two-year delay caused by technical documentation changes and international shipping issues. The new equipment arrived from China in early June. The total cost of the works is approximately 800,000 euros.

During the interim, residents—particularly the elderly, those with reduced mobility, and parents with children—were forced to use standard stairs.
