Zagreb expands traffic camera surveillance system

The City of Zagreb is expanding its video surveillance system to monitor improperly stopped or parked vehicles. Starting Thursday, October 16, 39 new camera locations will become operational, increasing the total number of monitored sites from 180 to 219, a nearly 22 percent increase.

The new locations were selected based on citizen reports, frequent traffic violations, and interventions by traffic wardens. The digital system, managed from a central traffic warden control center, captures and stores photographs of offending vehicles. All monitored areas are marked with traffic signs to warn drivers.

City officials stated that the expansion aims to improve safety for all road users, prevent the blocking of roadways, and enhance traffic flow, particularly for public transport. Meanwhile, residents in areas such as Voćarska, Srebrnjaka, and Zelenog dol have expressed concerns regarding parking shortages, questioning whether enforcement is being prioritized over finding sustainable long-term parking solutions.
