Zagreb hit by severe storms and high winds

Severe storms and high winds hit Zagreb, Croatia, causing widespread disruption after moving through Italy and Slovenia. The sudden weather shift, which began around 13:30, transformed a sunny morning into a period of intense wind and dark clouds.

Firefighters reported seven interventions within just 45 minutes. The wind uprooted trees near an elementary school, tore metal pieces from buildings, and scattered trash containers and traffic signs across the city. In one instance, a fan caused a fire in an apartment, leaving the resident in shock.

Public transportation was also affected; a mobile toilet overturned onto a protective fence, forcing passengers to evacuate a tram. The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (HDHZ) issued warnings regarding potential thunderstorms and advised citizens to exercise caution in open areas, forests, and mountains.
