Zagreb issues construction permit for new 35 million euro Autism Center

The City of Zagreb has issued a construction permit for a new Autism Center in Oporovac, a project that has been proposed for over two decades. The facility is designed to provide modern, adapted learning and developmental support for approximately 200 children, consolidating programs currently spread across multiple locations in Zagreb.

The project is valued at approximately 35 million euros. Funding includes 19.3 million euros from European Union funds via the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, with the remainder covered by the City of Zagreb budget. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2027 and is expected to last 18 months.

Designed by SODA-ARHITEKTI, the center will span over 9,600 square meters across three floors. It will feature 48 classroom units and educational groups, three preschool groups, and specialized spaces for music, art, domestic skills, and water therapy with a pool. Outdoor facilities will include a main square with a sensory park, fountains, and motor skill development areas.
