Zagreb opposition criticizes city budget rebalance

The Zagreb City Assembly is set to debate a budget rebalance on September 16, sparking criticism from opposition members regarding the city administration's spending priorities.

Former city councilor Renato Petek has criticized the Možemo administration, alleging that funds for the reconstruction and expansion of Centar Silver have been cut by 60%. Centar Silver is a municipal institution that trains guide dogs for children with disabilities and provides social services to their families. Petek claimed that the administration is failing to fulfill pre-election promises regarding investments in the center.

Opposition representative Milka Rimac Bilušić of the Drito party expressed concern over rising administrative costs, noting that the Mayor's Office budget is increasing by 2.1 million euros, a 28 percent rise. She argued that while salary increases for educators are justifiable, the administration is expanding its workforce and current expenditures rather than focusing on investments. The rebalance shows revenues increasing by approximately 41 million euros, while expenditures rise by nearly 150 million euros, partially covered by a 123 million euro surplus from the previous period.

Matej Mišić, president of the city SDP, stated that the party will support the operational part of the rebalance to ensure the stability and functioning of the city.
