Zagreb Police Urges Parents to Heighten Child Safety During School Holidays

The Zagreb Police Department warned parents and guardians that school holidays bring increased safety risks for children. Without the daily supervision provided by schools, minors are more vulnerable to real‑world and online dangers. Officers emphasized the need for continuous adult involvement, clear family rules, and monitoring of children’s movements and digital activity.

Police highlighted specific online threats, urging parents to set device usage limits, check privacy settings, and teach youngsters to avoid sharing personal data, passwords, or clicking suspicious links. They also reminded caregivers of legal responsibilities, noting that children under 16 must be supervised, and night outings between 23:00 and 05:00 without an adult can trigger police intervention and reports to social services.

Statistics from patrols conducted between September 2025 and May 2026 in Zagreb and its county show 62 minors caught out at night without adult accompaniment, 18 arrests for criminal offences, and 115 citations for violations such as driving without a licence or under the influence. The police urged families to lead by example in responsible device use and to encourage outdoor activities and peer interaction in safe settings.
