Zagreb public transport resumes after ZET strike and fare surges
A strike by workers at Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) and Zagreb Holding has caused significant disruptions to public transportation in Croatia's capital. During a three-day period of near-total service suspension, taxi fares in Zagreb surged by more than 100 percent on certain routes due to dynamic surge pricing as demand outpaced supply.
Public transport services have recently resumed following a court ruling that declared the strike illegal. Vladimir Jozić, president of the ZET drivers' and traffic workers' union, stated that the union intends to appeal the first-instance decision to the Supreme Court. Jozić emphasized that the strike was intended as a tool to force negotiations regarding a new collective agreement and material wage increases, rather than being an end in itself.
While services have returned to the streets, the possibility of further work stoppages remains an option depending on the Supreme Court's decision. Local officials have indicated a need for continued negotiations to resolve the dispute.
