Zagreb resident films large snake climbing building facade

A large snake was spotted in the center of Zagreb, Croatia, during an evening run in the Zelenival area. Gabriel Bitorajac captured video footage of the reptile, which appeared to be between 120 and 150 cm long, as it emerged from a basement window and climbed a building facade.

Observers suggest the animal is likely an Aesculapian snake (Zamenis longissimus), the second-largest snake in Europe. This non-venomous species is known for its ability to climb trees and walls. While its presence in a residential urban area is unusual, the species is considered beneficial to the ecosystem as it controls rodent populations.
