Zagreb tackles waste‑bin shortage and graffiti cleanup

Residents of Zagreb have complained that many streets – notably the stretch from Ilica to Deželićeva – lack public waste bins, with some neighborhoods reporting that existing containers are not emptied regularly. Social‑media comments highlight overflowing trash, the presence of rodents, and calls for more bins, especially for recyclable materials.

The city administration replied that graffiti removal is underway, having cleared 74 buildings after receiving 566 citizen requests by mid‑July. The programme, funded with €1.2 million, uses modern cleaning methods, applies anti‑graffiti coating to façades, and finances video‑surveillance equipment. An emergency‑intervention system allows owners to report new graffiti for same‑day removal, aiming to improve urban cleanliness and property values.
