Zagreb to expand Bajs bike-sharing system with 1,000 new bicycles

The City of Zagreb has announced a significant expansion of its Bajs public bike-sharing system following a surge in usage. The fleet will increase by 50 percent, growing from 2,000 to 3,000 bicycles, and the network will expand by 20 new stations.

Data indicates a massive increase in demand, with monthly rentals rising from approximately 22,000 in September 2025 to nearly 400,000 in September 2026. Mayor Tomislav Tomašević noted that roughly 23 percent of the city's population are registered users.

The new generation of bicycles will feature more durable constructions, more comfortable seats, mobile phone holders, and improved luggage baskets. Additionally, the number of bicycles equipped with child seats will double from 200 to 400. The city is also continuing to develop its cargo bike offerings, which recorded 473 rentals within their first six weeks of introduction.
