Zagreb to host free cardiovascular health campaign for World Heart Day

To mark World Heart Day, the public health and educational campaign ‘Ritam srca za ritam grada’ will take place in Zagreb on Friday, September 25, 2026. Held at Ban Josip Jelačić Square from 10:00 to 13:00, the event allows citizens to receive free cardiovascular check-ups without prior appointment or referral.

Organized by the Croatian Heart Rhythm Association and the City Office for Social Protection, Health, Veterans, and Persons with Disabilities, with support from the World Heart Federation, the initiative offers single-channel ECGs, blood pressure measurements, and oxygen saturation tests. Participants can also consult with cardiologists regarding prevention and learn about the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

The campaign aims to encourage the timely detection of arrhythmias, which can increase the risk of stroke and heart failure if left untreated. Dr. Borka Pezo Nikolić, president of the association, emphasized that simple pulse and ECG checks are vital first steps, as some arrhythmias do not present obvious symptoms.
