Zagreb Zoo wildlife rehabilitation project named EU award finalist

The modernization of the Zagreb Zoo wildlife rehabilitation center has been named a finalist for the best EU project awards. The project, which ran from July 2020 to June 2024, focused on enhancing the protection and rehabilitation of wild animals.

Through the construction of a new facility in the Dumovec neighborhood, the capacity for housing and caring for wild animals increased to 338 individuals. The expansion included 20 new accommodation units, including two specialized quarantine areas for birds and other species, supporting over 30 different types of protected wildlife.

The initiative was a collaborative effort between the City of Zagreb and the Zagreb Zoo, funded by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the City of Zagreb. The project aims to improve veterinary and rehabilitation activities while contributing to biodiversity and nature protection systems.
