Zagreb's Maksimir district faces persistent illegal waste dumping
A specific area in the Maksimir district of Zagreb, described as a ‘Bermuda Triangle’ of waste, is facing persistent issues with illegal dumping. The affected zone spans approximately 10,000 square meters, including Vlaha Bukovca Square, Eisenhuthova Street, Otokara Keršovanija Square, and Adam Mandrović Street.
According to the local waste management service, Čistoća, there have been 155 emergency interventions to remove illegally discarded waste or remediate pop-up landfills this year alone. Specifically, 67 interventions occurred at Vlaha Bukovca Square and 71 at Eisenhuthova Street and Otokara Keršovanija Square. Residents have been reporting these issues to local authorities and neighborhood committees for three years without a permanent solution.
