Zaheer Khan appointed Chennai Super Kings head coach for IPL 2027

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have officially appointed former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their head coach for the IPL 2027 season. Khan succeeds Stephen Fleming, who concluded an 18-year tenure with the franchise after the 2026 season.

Khan, who has previously held management and mentoring roles with Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, has been signed to a one-year contract. He has been granted full autonomy to select his own coaching and support staff. CSK Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan noted that Khan is “one of the finest cricketing brains” and a mentor to many young fast bowlers.

Reports indicate that the appointment was heavily influenced by the advice of legendary captain MS Dhoni, who was part of the decision-making process. Before Khan was finalized, the franchise reportedly considered other candidates, including Eoin Morgan and Hemang Badani, but negotiations did not reach an agreement. The move marks a strategic shift toward domestic leadership for the five-time champions.
