Zaheer Khan appointed Chennai Super Kings head coach for IPL 2027

Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 2027 IPL season on a one-year contract. This appointment marks the first time an Indian has held the position of head coach in the franchise's history, succeeding Stephen Fleming, who led the team for 16 years.

Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer expressed support for the decision, noting that Khan possesses a “wise head on his shoulders” and is highly composed. Jaffer also remarked that he was surprised by Khan's departure from the Lucknow Super Giants, where he previously served as a mentor.

Khan brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants and held various leadership positions with the Mumbai Indians, including director of cricket operations and global head of development. He joins CSK as the team seeks to return to the playoffs after failing to qualify since 2024.
