Zain and Ooredoo launch joint telecom tower platform
Zain Group and Ooredoo Group have completed the first closing of a transaction to establish a regional telecommunications tower platform. The joint venture is owned equally by both companies, with each holding a 50 percent stake.
The platform integrates approximately 4,000 towers from the portfolios of Zain Kuwait (ITK) and Ooredoo Qatar (Al Abraj). By focusing on passive infrastructure, the venture aims to improve capital efficiency, optimize infrastructure utilization, and support the expansion of digital networks, including 5G, across the region.
The companies intend to operate under an ‘Infrastructure-as-a-Service’ model, allowing telecom operators to access shared infrastructure. While the companies will retain their respective active network technologies and software, they plan to gradually integrate additional tower portfolios into the platform, subject to regulatory approvals.
