Zaječar hosts 59th Gitarijada rock music festival

The 59th edition of Gitarijada, a long-standing rock music festival, has commenced in Zaječar. The event, which runs from August 27 to August 29, combines competitions for demo bands with performances by established rock groups.

As part of the festival tradition, Milan Đurđević, the founder and producer of the band Neverne bebe, was named this year’s ‘rock mayor’ (rokonačelnik). During a ceremony at the City Administration, Zaječar Mayor Vladimir Videnović symbolically handed Đurđević the keys to the city.

Đurđević noted the festival's historical importance, recalling that his own musical career gained significant momentum after winning awards at Gitarijada in 1983 as a member of the group Nova Zemlja. He emphasized that the festival remains a crucial platform for rock culture and provides essential opportunities for young, emerging bands.
