Zakopane council chairman faces scrutiny over unfulfilled rotation promise
Grzegorz Jóźkiewicz, the chairman of the Zakopane city council, is facing scrutiny over an unfulfilled campaign promise. In May 2024, following the local elections, Jóźkiewicz declared that he would not hold his position for the full term. He had proposed a rotational system for the chairmanship, modeled after the Polish Sejm, promising to step down halfway through the term to spend more time with his family.
As the midpoint of the term approaches in late October or early November, there are no indications that this rotation will occur. Current vice-chairmen, including Marek Donatowicz, have stated that the topic of a leadership transition is currently not being discussed within the council.
