Several distinct environmental and biological events have been reported across Europe and the Mediterranean.

In the Baltic Sea, a large whale, estimated to be over six meters long, was spotted near Międzyzdroje, Poland. WOPR rescuers and the WWF Blue Patrol escorted the animal toward Wisełka to protect it from watercraft. The whale appeared to be swimming freely and was not entangled in any nets.

In the Mediterranean, the University of Messina has detected the presence of Vibrio vulnificus, a “flesh-eating bacterium,” in the Strait of Messina between Sicily and Calabria. While there is no acute outbreak in Italy, rising sea temperatures are creating favorable conditions for the pathogen, which has a 20 percent mortality rate in cases where it infects humans through open wounds.

Additionally, a woman in Okinawa, Japan, reported a dangerous encounter with multiple box jellyfish, which left significant stings on her limbs. In Kielce, Poland, authorities dismantled an illegal breeding facility where over 300 dogs were found in poor living conditions; the animals have been transferred to shelters and foundations for veterinary care.
