Zakopane police accused of withholding arson footage

The Dolnośląski Inspektorat Ochrony Zwierząt (DIOZ) is accusing the Zakopane District Police of withholding video footage that allegedly captures the moment a rescue vehicle belonging to the organization was set on fire. The arson occurred following a protest by activists on the route to Morskie Oko, where demonstrators were calling for the abolition of horse-drawn transport.

DIOZ estimates its losses from the fire at approximately 500,000 PLN and suggests the act may have been retaliation by local residents. In response to the allegations, the Zakopane police stated that they cannot unilaterally decide to publish evidence used in an ongoing investigation; such release requires approval from the prosecutor's office. The police maintain that their actions are professional and compliant with legal procedures.

In addition to hiring private detectives to investigate the arson and broader regional financial flows, DIOZ has encouraged supporters to contact the National Police Headquarters. Meanwhile, the conflict in the Podhale region continues to escalate, with Tatra County Starost Andrzej Skupień filing a notification with the prosecutor regarding the organization's activities.
