Zakopane poultry disease outbreak triggers regional restrictions

The Governor of Małopolska has established special restriction zones in the Podhale region following the detection of a suspected avian influenza outbreak in Zakopane. The measures affect parts of the Tatra and Nowy Targ counties.

A designated ‘infected area’ includes Zakopane and Murzasichle in the Poronin commune. In this zone, poultry and other birds must be kept in closed facilities, and the movement of birds between farms is prohibited. Farmers are also required to implement disinfection and biosecurity measures and maintain visitor logs.

A larger ‘danger zone’ has been established, covering the municipalities of Kościelisko, Bukowina Tatrzańska, and Biały Dunajec in Tatra County, as well as Bańska Wyżna in Szaflary and Ciche, Ratułów, and Czerwienne in the Czarny Dunajec commune. Similar restrictions regarding the movement of poultry are in effect within this zone. Hunting district managers are also obligated to report any deaths or suspected cases of avian influenza in wild birds.
