Zakopane residents protest proposed northern bypass

Residents of Zakopane held a protest in front of the City Hall to oppose the planned northern bypass, the widening of Kościeliska Street, and the connection of Tetmajera and Strążyska streets. Over 200 people signed a petition arguing that the project is not a true bypass but rather a plan that could allow up to 240,000 vehicles per day, potentially destroying the city center.

During the protest, city councilors joined the residents, noting that the exact route and details of the bypass have not been formally presented to the City Council. Vice-Chairman of the City Council, Zbigniew Szczerba, stated that while there are three concepts, one is preferred, but the specific implementation remains unknown. Mayor Łukasz Filipowicz thanked the citizens for the peaceful demonstration and pledged to convey all concerns to the Provincial Roads Authority (ZDW).
