Zakrzówek reservoir closed for fish research

The Zakrzówek reservoir in Kraków is closed to the public from October 13 to October 15, 2026, to facilitate specialized ichthyological research. Scientists are conducting a fish inventory to determine the species composition and population density within the water body, which will provide critical data regarding the ecosystem's health.

During this period, researchers will use large Nordic nets and specialized electrofishing equipment. To ensure safety, authorities have prohibited entering the water or using the recreational area. While the electrofishing equipment is not considered a direct threat to life, contact with the devices can be unpleasant. Additionally, the presence of marked nets on the water's surface poses a entanglement risk, particularly for divers. Barriers and information signs have been placed at the bathing area entrances and near the Water Sports Center to enforce the restriction.
