Zakynthos Mayor George Stasinopoulos Commits to New Beach Accessibility Systems

The Association of Persons with Disabilities Zakynthos “Oi Popolaroi” met with Mayor George Stasinopoulos to discuss accessibility and social policy on the island. The mayor pledged that four new SeaTrac wheelchair‑accessible beach systems will be installed by 15 August at Agios Sotiris, Banana (Vasiliko), the central Tsilivi beach and the Alikes beach.

The council also approved the association’s proposals for marked disabled parking spaces, relocation of spots where needed, and a ramp from Solomos Square to the Spiritual Centre. Collaboration with municipal daily‑life adviser Agapitos Vitsos will oversee these works. The municipality endorsed the creation of Zakynthos’ first Supported Living Residence and will help compile a comprehensive guide to local social services. Discussions also covered plans for an accessible playground, with a follow‑up meeting scheduled with the Port Authority to resolve site‑allocation issues.
