Zakynthos: Portuguese tourist survives after deep-sea rescue

A Portuguese tourist has survived after being rescued from the sea floor near Zakynthos, Greece. The individual, reported to be approximately 23 to 26 years old, fell from a vessel into the water on August 21.

A 70-year-old fisherman responded to the family's cries for help and successfully located the man at a depth of approximately 12 meters. Following the recovery, medical personnel and bystanders performed continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for nearly 80 minutes, spanning a private vessel, a Coast Guard boat, and land transport.

The victim was eventually intubated and moved to the Intensive Care Unit at Zakynthos Hospital. Local officials have reported that his condition has improved, he is out of danger, and he is able to communicate well.
