Zakynthos streets and squares flooded by heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall on Sunday caused significant flooding across Zakynthos, turning streets and squares into areas of water accumulation. Major issues were reported in Agiou Markou Square, the Agia Triada area, and along Kapodistriou Street, where water levels reached nearly the height of sidewalks.
The flooding has highlighted vulnerabilities in the city's drainage infrastructure. Many storm drains failed to function effectively, prompting local citizens to attempt to clear them manually to facilitate water runoff. The incident has raised urgent questions regarding the maintenance of drainage networks, the necessity of regular cleaning of storm drains before rainy seasons, and the need for long-term flood prevention projects to protect the city's residents and visitors.
