Zakynthos to celebrate feast of Saint Dionysios in August

Zakynthos will celebrate the feast of its patron saint, Saint Dionysios, with a series of religious ceremonies scheduled from August 23 to August 26, 2026.

The program, organized by the Holy Metropolis of Zakynthos, begins on Sunday, August 23, with the descent of Metropolitan Dionysios from the Holy Monastery to the Holy Temple, followed by a procession of the Saint's sacred relics and Vespers.

On Monday, August 24, festivities include an all-night vigil starting at 02:00, followed by Matins and a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. The day's main event will be a procession of the sacred relics through the city of Zakynthos at 19:30.

The celebrations conclude on Wednesday, August 26, with a Hierarchical Liturgy and a final procession of the relics within the Holy Temple before they are placed in the Holy Larnaka. The religious procession will feature participation from the Air Force, local municipal and regional philharmonic bands, Scouts, Guides, and various cultural and educational delegations.
