Zalando to close Erfurt-Vieselbach logistics center
Zalando is set to close its logistics center in Erfurt-Vieselbach by the end of September. The company has already halted incoming shipments to the site and notified suppliers of new delivery locations.
The closure will result in the gradual release of approximately 2,700 employees. While a small number of staff will remain to oversee the decommissioning of systems and facilities through summer 2027, the majority of the workforce faces job losses.
Legal disputes have emerged, with 109 employees filing lawsuits against the company. Zalando has stated it will not make further financial concessions beyond the existing social plan, including refusing to establish a transfer company. Conciliation hearings at the local labor court have so far ended without agreement.
Local labor authorities in Thuringia-Mitte anticipate a significant increase in unemployment numbers. In response to the layoffs, Zalando has organized a job fair to help connect employees with other logistics firms.
