Zaliha Mustafa denies involvement in Myanmar refugee settlement ceremonies

Dr Zaliha Mustafa, the former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), has denied social media allegations claiming she was involved in groundbreaking ceremonies for new Myanmar refugee settlements.

Dr Zaliha clarified that a photograph circulating online, which shows her with an unidentified individual, was actually taken during the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur on August 12, 2025. She stated that the event was open to the public and that she does not personally know the individual in the image.

She emphasized that the claims are malicious and contradict her previous record, noting that during her tenure at the Federal Territories Department, she established the KL Strike Force specifically to tackle issues regarding illegal settlements and the influx of foreign nationals. Dr Zaliha announced her intention to report the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for legal investigation.
