Zalo mandates phone‑number update for users within 14 days

Zalo, the messaging platform, has sent a notification to users stating “Bạn cần cập nhật số điện thoại” (you need to update your phone number). The company says the update must be completed within 14 days to keep the account active and secure. The notice is targeted at accounts whose registered numbers are out‑of‑sync or have been reclaimed by telecom providers.

Users who do not update their numbers risk account deactivation under legal regulations, and new owners of reclaimed numbers could potentially hijack accounts for fraud. Zalo assures that changing the registered number will not delete the account or its data. The update process involves selecting the “Cập nhật số mới” option, entering a new, unused number, receiving an SMS OTP, and confirming the code. The reminder will appear at the top of the chat screen or via Zalo’s official OA channel, and the company warns against scams impersonating Zalo or telecom staff.
