Zalužnica Memorial Restored to Honor Croatian War Heroes

A restored war memorial was inaugurated in the village of Zalužnica, Croatia, commemorating the Croatian defenders who fell during the War of Independence, especially in the Operation "Oluja" offensive. The ceremony gathered families of the deceased, representatives of veteran organisations, members of the Croatian Armed Forces and numerous local, regional and national officials.

The project was launched by the Association of Croatian Volunteers of the War of Independence of the City of Senj and was funded through the joint effort of Lika‑Senj County, the cities of Senj, Otočac, Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski and the municipalities of Brinje, Vinodolska, among others. Names of the fallen—including Robert Barbić, Donko Barbijani, Tomo Biondić and others—were read aloud and permanently inscribed on the site.

Speeches were delivered by war commander Ivica Brajković, mayor of Otočac Goran Bukovac, and other local leaders, who stressed the importance of preserving the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Croatia’s freedom.
