Zamalek football club hit with FIFA suspension over unpaid AIK transfer fees

FIFA imposed a new three‑window registration ban on Egyptian club Zamalek after the team failed to pay Swedish side AIK the remaining US$1.1 million owed for the transfer of Palestinian striker Omar Faraj. The sanction is unrelated to Zamalek’s continental licence and stems from a breach of FIFA’s rules on settlement of inter‑club financial obligations. The club must either settle the debt or reach a settlement with AIK to lift the ban and register new players.

The suspension has sparked discontent among Zamalek’s first‑team squad, who are frustrated by the delayed start of their preseason camp and fear the ban could affect their preparation for the upcoming season. The club, however, has reported progress in resolving several other outstanding debts, including payments to former coaches, staff and former players.
