Zamalek heads to CAS hearing over FIFA sanctions as club’s management disputes surface

Zamalek received an official notice from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) setting a hearing for 25 August to consider the club’s appeal against FIFA’s decision in the Konrad Michelak case. FIFA had ordered Zamalek to pay $525,000 in overdue wages and $210,000 in compensation, and imposed a transfer ban for three registration periods. The club is seeking to lift the ban so it can register new players during the summer transfer window.

The tenure of former sporting director John Edward is also under scrutiny. While he helped the team win a league title and settled some outstanding payments, critics point to his reliance on a small circle of close associates, numerous contract disputes and a rise to 18 legal cases. Issues such as high‑value player contracts, delayed player payments and postponed preseason training have been linked to his management, highlighting internal challenges at the club.
