Zambia Congress of Trade Unions urges citizens to report social media hate speech

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has called on citizens to report hate speech and inflammatory content on social media to protect national stability and democracy. ZCTU President Blake Mulala warned that digital platforms are being used to spread messages that undermine peace and incite division.

During a media briefing in Lusaka, Mulala urged Zambians to use social media to promote unity rather than conflict, noting that while political leaders are temporary, the citizens remain. He encouraged the public to hold one another accountable by reporting dangerous online posts to law enforcement.

Additionally, the ZCTU expressed satisfaction with the calm and orderly nature of recent elections, commending President Hakainde Hichilema for maintaining internet access during the polls. The union urged political parties to accept electoral outcomes through lawful channels and called on the government to prioritize workers' rights, job creation, and the awarding of contracts to local Zambian companies.
