Zambia Electoral Commission accredits 4,000 observers for Lusaka polls
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has accredited over 4,000 local observers and monitors for the Lusaka District ahead of the national general elections scheduled for August 13. This deployment aims to ensure monitoring presence at approximately three polling stations per observer to build public confidence and manage potential disputes in urban centers.
Simultaneously, the ECZ has revoked the accreditation of Binwell Mpundu, a nominee of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity, from accessing the National Results Centre. Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro cited public safety and security concerns following a social media video in which Mpundu allegedly made threats of violence. The Commission stated that such conduct could incite unrest and undermine the peaceful conduct of the electoral process.
