Zambia Energy Regulation Board maintains September fuel prices

Zambia’s Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has decided to maintain September fuel prices at the same levels established in August. This decision comes despite rising international oil prices driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the depreciation of the Kwacha against the U.S. dollar.

The ERB attributed the price stability to policy interventions, specifically the zero-rating and suspension of Value Added Tax (VAT) and excise duty on petroleum products. These measures helped offset the upward pressure caused by market fundamentals.

The uniform national prices per litre are as follows: • Petrol: K25.29 • Diesel: K26.86 • Kerosene: K27.02 • Jet A-1: K27.71 (noted as K28.71 in one report)

ERB Board Chairperson James Banda stated that the decision aims to provide predictability for domestic industries, including agriculture, mining, and public transit, while supporting local inflation management.
