Zambia expands energy capacity with gas and solar projects
Zambia is advancing its energy infrastructure through new power generation projects. ZESCO Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Zaango Aspin Limited to develop a 600-megawatt gas-fired power project. This initiative aims to increase electricity generation capacity and improve supply reliability to support the nation’s socio-economic development and the ‘Grow Zambia Agenda’.
In a separate development, Lunzua Power Company Limited and Valinor Investments Limited have broken ground on an $8 million solar photovoltaic plant in the Mwandi District of Western Province. The 10-megawatt project is expected to generate approximately 22 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to supply roughly 4,600 homes. The construction phase is projected to create approximately 100 jobs.
