Zambia Ministry of Health redeploys 123 officers

Zambia’s Ministry of Health has launched an institutional restructuring and cleanup exercise at its headquarters in Lusaka. As part of this initiative, 123 officers will be redeployed to their substantive primary stations.

Health Minister Professor Roma Chilengi stated that an internal assessment revealed these officers were operating under temporary administrative arrangements that fall outside the ministry’s approved 2021 establishment, which limits headquarters staffing to 403 positions. The redeployment aims to eliminate redundancies and fill critical operational gaps at frontline health facilities and decentralized administrative centers.

Following the redeployment, the ministry plans to conduct a comprehensive audit of the qualifications and competencies of the remaining staff within the approved 403-member structure. Every position will be evaluated against professional benchmarks and job descriptions. Personnel found lacking the necessary academic, professional, or technical qualifications for their current headquarters roles will be reassigned to operational stations that match their verified credentials.
