Zambia Police investigate motorist fleeing presidential motorcade

The Zambia Police Service has launched an investigation into a motorist who allegedly defied a lawful order to stop during President Hakainde Hichilema’s motorcade in Lusaka. The incident took place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the T-junction of Chilimbulu and Mosi-oa-Tunya Roads.

Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi stated that the motorist ignored instructions from a traffic officer and sped away. This event was noted as the only security-related matter reported following the presidential inauguration ceremony held at National Heroes Stadium.

Authorities reported that the inauguration itself was conducted peacefully, with no major security incidents or crime-related occurrences recorded at the stadium. Traffic management plans and coordination between Defence and Security Wings were credited for the smooth conduct of the event, with road traffic returning to normal by 18:00 hours.
