Zambia Police seize counterfeit food and cosmetics in Lusaka

The Zambia Police Service has seized a large quantity of food, cosmetic, and sugar products suspected of being manufactured or repackaged under unhygienic conditions in Lusaka’s Kabanana and Chipata compounds.

During searches conducted on September 8, 2026, officers in Kabanana Compound seized over 20,000 bottles of Good Family Hot Chilli Sauce, peanut butter, shampoo, and various manufacturing tools. Investigations suggest these products were being produced in a backyard setting. A 34-year-old man, Ogden Malambo, has been identified in connection with these activities.

In Chipata Compound, police recovered hundreds of bags of sugar from various brands, including Mansa Sugar, Kafue Sugar, and White Spoon Sugar. Authorities found sealing machines, weighing scales, and branded bags, suggesting industrial sugar was being repackaged at an unmarked premises. Jovan Mugisha, 25, has been charged with offenses including offering goods for sale with false trademarks and operating a factory without a license.
