President Hakainde Hichilema has been sworn in for a second five-year term in Zambia following the August 13 election, where official results credited him with 60% of the vote. The election has been marked by significant political tension. Following the vote, security forces conducted a raid in Lusaka linked to Mundubile, which resulted in the death of a former minister and the arrest of several opposition politicians. Mundubile and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, were subsequently apprehended and charged with treason, allegations which they deny.

International observers, including the European Union, noted that while polling day was largely peaceful, there were procedural weaknesses in the counting process. These included failures to record results immediately in official registers and discrepancies between digital and paper records. In his inauguration address, Hichilema emphasized national stability and invited the opposition to collaborate on the 'Grow Zambia' agenda, which aims to transition the country from economic stabilization to increased production in mining, agriculture, and energy.
