Zambia Revenue Authority signs deal with U.S. firm for Livingstone border scanners

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has signed a contract with California-based Astrophysics Inc. to install advanced X-ray cargo scanning technology at the Livingstone border post. As one of Southern Africa’s busiest crossings, the upgrade aims to enhance border security and improve the efficiency of regional trade.

The new system is expected to allow ZRA officers to inspect trucks and cargo more accurately and safely, reducing waiting times for vehicles while making it more difficult to transport contraband, smuggled goods, or dangerous materials. This initiative aligns with Zambia’s goals to improve domestic revenue collection, enhance the ease of doing business, and establish the country as a secure hub for regional trade.

The agreement was signed at the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka by ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda and Astrophysics Inc. Vice President Vincent Zayek. This project follows previous cooperation between the two entities at the Nakonde border post, where similar scanning technology is already operational.
