Zambia strengthens HIV prevention through U.S. drug shipment and private sector support
Zambia is enhancing its HIV/AIDS response through a combination of international pharmaceutical support and private sector initiatives. The United States has funded the shipment of Lenacapavir, a groundbreaking HIV prevention drug, to the country. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Global Health Carlos Garcia noted that the long-lasting treatment is designed to improve adherence and reduce transmission rates among high-risk populations.
Simultaneously, Liebherr Zambia Limited has donated €25,000 to Kupirira, a non-profit organization working to secure affordable antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) and prevention products. Kupirira aims to establish a sustainable procurement model to protect the approximately 1.2 million people living with HIV in Zambia as international donor financing shifts. The organization plans to aggregate demand from participating companies to negotiate lower prices for essential supplies.
