Zambia urges Minerals Regulation Commission to anchor functions in law

The Zambian government has instructed the Minerals Regulation Commission (MRC) to ensure its regulatory activities are strictly anchored in law to maintain investor confidence in the nation’s mining sector. During a meeting in Lusaka, Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Dr. Hapenga Kabeta emphasized that effective regulation must provide certainty to investors while safeguarding national interests and ensuring legal compliance.

As the MRC assumes several regulatory functions previously managed by the Ministry, officials noted the importance of clear mandates to improve coordination and service delivery. The Commission is working to strengthen its institutional capacity and systems to support sustainable investment and economic growth within the minerals sector.
