Zambian candidates file High Court petitions to challenge election results

Several candidates from Zambia’s August 13 general election have filed High Court petitions to nullify results in at least six constituencies, citing various electoral irregularities.

In Ndola Central, former Transport Minister Frank Tayali is challenging the victory of Emmanuel Mulenga. Tayali, a lawyer, alleged “glaring election irregularities” and stated the legal action is rooted in democratic principles. In Kalabo South, Mooto Kalowa is contesting the election of Chiinga Miyutu, alleging vote buying and legal violations.

Other contested seats include Nkana, where Francis Mukuka cited interference with electricity at polling stations and the intimidation of agents; Bangweulu, where Anthony Kasandwe alleged unannounced polling station results; Siavonga; and Zambezi Central, where Raphael Ngimbu alleged corruption, bribery, and violence.
