Zambian Finance Minister warns of arrests for procurement breaches
Zambian Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, has cautioned cabinet ministers to strictly follow public financial management regulations. During an orientation meeting regarding the national budget and government development programs, Musokotwane warned that violations in procurement, contracting, and expenditure could result in arrests and legal proceedings.
Musokotwane emphasized that ministers must possess a thorough understanding of budget processes to ensure accountability within their ministries. He noted that the 2027 national budget requires a unified cabinet approach before being presented to Parliament. He further advised ministers to demand clear explanations from permanent secretaries and controlling officers, noting that every budget line will face scrutiny during parliamentary committee sittings.
