Zambian influencer Gezile Smith Mwale arrested for obscene videos
Zambian social media personality Gezile Smith Mwale was taken into custody by the Zambia Police Service in Lusaka after explicit videos featuring alleged obscene acts circulated widely online. Police allege that between 22 and 27 July 2026 Mwale, aged 23, participated in the production of the videos and helped distribute them on various social‑media platforms, violating Section 177 of the Zambian Penal Code.
The anti‑cyber crime unit, in coordination with the Zambia Cyber Security Agency, investigated the matter following a report on 27 July 2026. Mwale was formally charged with production of obscene material and remains in police custody pending a court appearance. Authorities say other individuals involved in the videos are still at large and investigations continue. The case has sparked public discussion in Zambia about online privacy, the responsibilities of public figures, and the challenges law enforcement faces in policing digital content.
