Zambian opposition candidate Brian Mundubile attacks President Hichilema ahead of election

Opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) accused President Hakainde Hichilema of forgetting that power belongs to the people. Speaking at a rally in Kapiri Mposhi, Mundubile said the incumbent government had failed to deliver on promises such as affordable electricity, reduced mealie‑meal prices, and lower fuel costs. He outlined two youth‑empowerment schemes – “Drive to Own” for car drivers and “Ride to Own” for motorbike riders – that would provide vehicles on flexible credit, and pledged to revive the local glass‑manufacturing plant, cut electricity tariffs and end load‑shedding to protect small and medium enterprises.

A viral online poll on a Zambian Facebook page showed Hichilema receiving 30,098 votes (50%) and Mundubile 27,047 votes (45%). The poll, however, was not a scientific survey and is not representative of the national electorate. The official election outcome will be decided on polling day by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
