Zambia's ECZ orders fresh Mandevu election after results centre attack

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has ordered a fresh parliamentary election for the Mandevu Constituency in Lusaka District following a security breach at a results aggregation centre.

According to ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro, unknown individuals attacked the constituency’s results totalling centre during the aggregation of National Assembly election results from the August 13, 2026, General Elections. The attackers reportedly destroyed result transmission kits and fled with all election documentation.

The theft of these materials rendered it impossible for the returning officer to complete the process and formally declare a winner. Consequently, the ECZ has resolved to hold a by-election in the constituency. A specific date for the fresh vote has not yet been announced and will be communicated in due course.
