Zambia's Electoral Commission completes ballot distribution ahead of Aug 13, 2026 election

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) announced that the distribution of ballot papers will be completed tomorrow, ensuring all materials are in place for the general election scheduled for 13 August 2026. Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said verification with party representatives disproved claims that fake ballots had been smuggled from Tanzania and warned that misinformation could undermine public confidence and peace.

Acting Director of Electoral Operations Winner Mwanamoonga reported that 81,000 polling staff have been trained between 5 and 9 August and that election results are expected to be announced by 17 August 2026. The commission also hosted a delegation from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) election observer mission, focusing now on logistics, security of materials and timely delivery to polling stations.
